When I was sixteen years old, I was chosen to be a candidate for a deaconship with my church. I was elected and held that position for two years along with nine other deacons. This deaconship gave me responsibility within my church that I had never had before. For one to two months out of a year, a deacon would be responsible for tasks such as; opening and closing the church, recording attendance, and assigning acolytes. During my deaconship, I had the privilege to travel to New York City and provide aid to the people impacted by Hurricane Sandy. We worked for ten days deconstructing then rebuilding houses.
