Brianna Minnoe English 9, Period 8 The Alchemist by Paul Coelho 1/23/16 A personal legend is not only about having a career, figuring out about the fundamentals of the everyday life of a typical human being trying to make a living and get by; rather it is an aspiration that is deeper than the typical american dream. It is something that is dreamt upon each day, that you crave and eats away at you as your life flies by, knowing of your determination each day to fulfill your passion and spiritual quest, like Santeigo did from the novel The Alchemist, by Paul Coelho. For example, Santeigo’s journey, was just as valuable as his destination. As the crystal merchant spoke to him, he explained that if he soon realized his goal, he would not have anthing to look forward to in the rest of his lifetime. But often, your journey opens up your mind to new possiblites, and new things you may soon have a desire to live and learn. The crystal merchant gave Santiego the inner resource to never fully figure out your true destination, but to value to journey behind it. This showed that by traveling the world, it is not about reaching my final destination to a country as Santiego’s was to reaching Mecca, but also enjoying the journey and surroundings along the way. Another way The Alchesmist had inner recourses for me to fulfill my dream is the old man who spoke to Santeigo and said, “To realizing one’s destiny is a person’s only obligation, and when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.” This told Santiego to always look at the glass half full, rather than half empty.
