In the context of Pakistan, very narrow research has been done on the leadership style adopted in the education sector. The Pakistani culture is based on the power distance and gives priority to the autocratic decision making style. In Pakistani culture there is high power distance but low individualism (Routamaa & Hautala, 2008). Jeger (1986) manifested that transactional leadership is more successful in variety of countries outside North America including India, Nigeria, Japan and Pakistan. Pakistan is bureaucratic state where command and control rules (Ahmed, 1996). Therefore transactional leadership can be more effective in this specified culture. In view of leader relationship between the managers and the subordinates is seen as exchange-giving something in return of something .On performing well reward is awarded to the subordinate but if they perform poor they will be given punishments in any way. Processes, guidelines and principles remains vital in transactional leadership. Followers are observed keenly by their transactional leaders for monitoring the implementation of rules, award/reward their achievement and to punish the failures of tasks. Transactional leaders not only focus on boosting organization’s progress but they also work for their followers by giving rise to their performance by giving positive feedback which ultimately encourages followers for working with devotion. When is Transactional Leadership the Most Effective? According to the research followers are not invigorated for creating or acquiring new ideas and solutions to the organization problems. Transactional leadership is more effective in such conditions where issues are uncomplicated and evidently defined. Furthermore it is also effective in critical situations where aim is achieving specific tasks. Leaders can assure completion of tasks on time by assigning tasks and their duties to individuals. Transactional leadership helps in maintaining the status of the organization in bad times. Moreover, transactional leader aims at the maintenance of his team by assigning tasks with clarity of the demanded work, making his team evident about the reward they will get on effectively executing the tasks, making them aware of the consequences of failing in tasks and providing them feedback on their completed tasks.
