Olympe de Gouges, formerly know as Marie Gouze, wrote the Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female Citizen in September of 1791. This primary source explains de Gouges’ strong opinion of the treatment of women, how they are seen as disposable objects, the split of property in a marriage, and the topic of feminism and equality in the late 18th century.
