I found it interesting who signed the Olive Branch Petition (08-Jul-1775) to the King a year before the Declaration of Independence (1776) was signed. The political environment seemed to have altered over the following year prior to the Declaration being signed. Silas Deanne’s signature was contained on the 1975 petition along with a number others. In 1775, the environment appeared to have leaned towards reconciling with England. Changes in the members over time, changed the political environment a year from that occurrence. Silas Deanne’s name was on the 1775 document. In 1776, Congress sent him to France as the first American to represent the colonies. (Davidson & Lytle, 2005).
