Use your hands to remove the drain plug and allow the oil to pour out into the oil pan. e. When the old motor oil decreases to a drip, put the drain plug back on by tightening it with your hands, then turning the socket wrench clockwise to tighten it completely. f. Pour the old motor oil from the pan into an old oil can or a plastic jug of some kind 3. Replace the Oil Filter a. Find the oil filter underneath the vehicle b. Once the oil filter has been identified, use the oil filter wrench to loosen the filter by turning it counterclockwise. c. After loosening, remove the oil filter by hand. d. Install the new filter by tightening it by hand. Figure 3 4. Add the New Motor Oil a. Locate the oil filler cap under the hood of your car. b. Put the funnel in the opening and pour the new motor oil into the tank. c. After adding the new motor oil, replace the oil filler cap. d.
