Fate and Free-Will in Oedipus the King Fate is the development of events beyond a person’s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power. Free will is the power of acting without the constraint of necessity or fate. What are we living by fate or free will? Oedipus the King is the story of an obvious lord torn by "destiny" and the fate of the godly beings. There are regular lessons to be gained from Oedipus and his dreadful story; adjusting not to respond emotionally and mentally distinctive, paying little mind to the circumstances, and the basic slip-ups of being judgmental and self-important. The Greeks trusted in the thought that identity of the individual significantly influenced his or her life. Their identity was what chooses their unrestrained choice. A savvy man will use sound judgment in his life; an insensible and undetermined man will not be so lucky. The character qualities of an individual have a certain positive or negative influence on the decisions that he or she makes. For Oedipus, one of these properties was the longing for learning and truth about his presence. This main push in the play prompted reality of his source. These tie in with his part of unrestrained choice. His freedom is focused around his drive for learning. Sometimes character qualities have a negative impact on fate and/or free-will, known as a Tragic Flaw. Shakespeare expounds on tragic flaw through his development of individual characters. According to _____, it is realized that Antigone is not self-assured, which is assumed, based on this article, this played a major part in her fate. If Antigone had utilized her free-will to exercise hubris her fate may have been different. Summarily, Oedipus possessed anger issues that caused him to assist in the development of the very fate he was trying to avoid.
