“I am Odysseus, son of Laretes. I am the king of Ithaca”, he stated in the Odyssey. Odysseus, son of Laretes, and king of Ithaca is what this story is about. He is the main character of The Odyssey. He is called to war. Odysseus shows arrogance ,bravery, and determination on his journey home to Ithaca. Odysseus is a very brave and wise man in the story, The Odyssey. In the story, Odysseus had to leave his newborn son and wife Penelope, to go fight in the war. This is true because, in the story, Odysseus has just seen/held his newborn son. Then he was told to go to war across seas and leave Ithaca and his family right away. Odysseus is also brave in lots of many ways. He took care of his men and fought bravely. He was very strong when he had to leave his family and kingdom, just to go to the war and win. When Odysseus and his man had to go past the sirens on his journey, he kept his men very safe. Odysseus is arrogant in the story of his way home to Ithaca. He would most likely not take no for an answer. This is very much true because, Odysseus did not want to listen to Athena about the sirens. He wanted to listen to the beautiful song they sang. He told the men to tie him up to the post and do not let him go until they pass the sirens. Odysseus is arrogant because, he didn’t believe Poseidon when he told him he helped him with the Trojan War. When Odysseus won the Trojan War, he was very much proud and told all the gods. He yelled to Poseidon that he did not need his help to win the war. Odysseus also is very arrogant in a way, whenever he blinded Polyphemus. He yelled at Polyphemus telling him who he was and that, he can not get him. Basically his was mocking Polyphemus. After he and his men got away from the Cyclops (Polyphemus) he was trash talking to him. Very arrogant Odysseus
