04 December Odyssey “It’s a boy” shouted a citizen of Ithaca. In the epic poem, Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is the ruler of Ithaca and he has a wife named Penelope.They had just had a son named Telemachus. Odysseus is asked to fight in the Trojan wars and he accepted the offer, after ten years odysseus has won the war and he heads home, but there are many challenges in his way. As Odysseus faces those challenges in his homeland suitors are trying to take his throne and his wife. The story shows that Odysseus is strong, smart, and heroic. Odysseus is strong Odysseus was strong in the story for many reasons. One example of this is because he was the last of his men to survive the journey back to Ithaca from Troy.In the story it says, “Greatherearted Odysseus, home at last.” (23:97). Another example was because he strung his bow in the challenge with no problem when none of the other suitors could, he also shot the arrow through the ends of the axes with ease. One last example is that he never gave up on his goal of reaching his family back in Ithaca, even with all of the challenges he faced throughout his journey. In the story it says, “Here he is, large as life,by his own fire.” (23:3).…show more content…
The first example of this is because when he told the cyclops that his name was Nohbdy. It says in the story, “My name is Nohbdy: mother,father,and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy.” (9:272).
