Neil Hilborn is a College National Poetry Slam champion and in August 2013, his poem “OCD” went viral, getting over 7 million views, making it one of the most popular poems on Youtube.
I chose this poem because it is my favorite and I like how the author gave a nice representation of the disorder and how he expressed so much emotion so simply. The speaker in this poem is the author. He is talking to the reader. He seems to be a very paranoid and obsessive person, due to his disorder. The occasion in this narrative poem is him falling in love with a girl and losing her, over the same thing that she fell in love with him for. This seems to be going on over a long period of time. The setting is in public, and in their private houses. The central purpose of this poem is him explaining how love can end over the same reason it started. For example, you could love someone for how they kicked their feet up on your dashboard of your car but now you can't stand it. The central theme of this poem is loss of love and OCD, as the title states.
