Obsessions can be destructive! Obsession is a pre-occurring thought that is stuck in mind and can be positive and negative. Obsession is negative when it is unhealthy which means person thinks negative and act differently according to how much obsession a person have. The person having it, usually act without having awareness of what they are doing. They simply react to things other than to respond. Often people with some sort of tension are tend to do the same. The narrator in “The Tell Tale Heart” showed an unhealthy obsession towards an old man. “I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture --a pale blue eye, with a film over it.…show more content…
The all he was worried about was his eye, in which he totally had forgotten that by doing so he will lose someone whom he loves is the old man. Obsession can be destructive to the point of being paranoia. By the story author is also trying to tell that sometimes people harm those whom they love due to having some sort of obsession. If someone is obsessed like for being fat. The person have two choices: to reduce their weight or to give up on life. The either choices that a person decides to choose is totally dependent on the person’s past experience with it. Narrator chooses to go with bad due to he may had a previous situation that turned to have a negative impact on him. We lose our consciousness as said before, that’s why the narrator treated Old man’s eye completely separate from him. He treated it separate
