According to Nugent & Jones (2009) “assessment takes place all throughout the counseling process (pg. 113). What is an assessment and its purpose? Its purpose is to help the client and therapist understand the client’s problem (Nugent & Jones, pg. 113). To do this the therapists “goal is to have an accurate assessment because it’s vital to diagnosing the client’s problem” (Nugent & Jones, pg. 113). An assessment consists of “tests, interviews, observations and other measurement procedures that are all components of a comprehensive evaluation” (Nugent & Jones, pg. 113).
