Steven Daniels, Ph.D., California State University, Bakersfield SUBJECT: National Park Service BACKGROUND: The task in this assignment is to locate the website of any government or nonprofit organization and locate certain key inform. KEY POINTS: The mission statement of the National Park Service is as follows, “The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources, and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The Strategic Plan of the National Park Service is easily found on a website called planning.nps.org. The webpage is set up where a person can choose a national park and look at a specific strategic plan for that park. The public does have access to this webpage as they should to be able to ask questions and see where some priorities are focused on. They also provide budget plans for specific and all parks in general to show how money and resources are being utilized. This is a link to the webpage: http://planning.nps.gov/ The NPS has a web page that has a chart breaking down the organizations leadership’s structure. They have it in the form of a tree where the higher the chart, the higher rank of power that person is. It even goes so far as to breaking it down the regional directories of the entire United States including Alaska, Guam, and Hawaii. He is 61 years old and he assumed his position on September 24, 2009. Jarvis is the 18th director of the National Park Service and he has worked in prior positions that have been involved with nature and preservation for about 30 years so he does have some experience in the field that he is working in. The National Park Service does have a very good web page encouraging people and students to apply to work in the NPS. It also displays some statistics of the 20,000 employees, and the number of options of employees in their positions for example there are 580 people working as park police. They also offer student jobs and internships for the summer for whoever is interested in working for the NPS. For new employees who are have been hired by the NPS, they also offer an new employee orientation program which allows newly hired people to get a little more help getting situated as a new employee. Now since the National Park Service is a government agency, anyone interested in applying must have to go to the USAJOBS application site. The site itself needs a person to create an account, build a resume, and fill out an application for said jobs. This site has many job opportunities not just in the NPS but this is where one must apply
