In “The Possibility of Evil” there is significant symbolism between Miss Strangeworth and her roses. Miss Strangeworth treasures her roses as if they were her entire life. There is also symbolism in Miss Strangeworth’s name. In the story it reads, “Miss Strangeworth kept a bowl of white roses on the bed table.” White roses are known to represent purity and innocence. Pure and innocent is exactly what Miss Strangeworth leads the people in her town to believe she us. The color of the roses represents how she seems to the people in her town.
