Many people believe that having confidence in one’s worldview is closed-minded. However, forming a worldview and being confident in it does not have to be synonymous with closed-mindedness. The problem with many of those who assuredly state their beliefs is that they have never looked into anything else and likely never will. The people who have genuinely searched and studied before deciding upon their worldview have informed opinions, are usually much more open-minded. To fully flesh out the issue of open-mindedness, one must first define the word itself. A common misconception of the word “open-minded” is that it means uncertain; however, Merriam-Webster defines open-minded as “willing to consider different ideas or opinions” (Merriam-Webster).
