Title: Analysis of Mini unknown
Summary: A series of test was done with Microbe 3B. A Gram stain was done and the sample was gram positive. A streak plate was completed revealing that the microbe was circular, convex, entire, smooth, yellow, and opaque. The last test completed was the MSA. The microbe was oxidase positive. Thus, Microbe 3B was Micrococcus luteus (Sarcina). (MMB,2015)
Procedure 1 Gram stain: Purpose/ Introduction: The Gram stain reveals whether a microbe is gram positive or gram negative. It also reveals the shape and arrangement of the microbe. (MMB,2015) Of the twelve possible microbes the following are gram positive: Micrococcus luteu (Sarcina), Pseudomonas aeriginosa, Sporosarcina ureae. The remaining microbe…show more content… The streak plate was used in lab for inoculating on a plate of Mannitol Salt Agar. The temperature used in lab to detect growth in a broth is any medium such as % salt broth. (MMB, 2015) Fermentation labs are lactose, glucose, and sucrose broth is used. For example, the Gram stain was done following the procedure on pages 35-39 of Microbiology selected lab. (Harley,2014) Time for the crystal violet was changed to 15 seconds to prevent over staining.…show more content… A Gram stain was done and the sample was gram positivellowing . (MMB,2015) The following were eliminated: Chromobacterium violenceum, Eschirichia coli, Micrococcus roseus, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Rhodococcus rhodochrous, Sarcina aurantiaca, Serratia marcescens, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus epidermidis. (Harley,2014) A streak plate was completed it revealing that the microbe was circular, convex, entire, smooth, yellow, and opaque. Because they were not yellow in color the following were eliminated. The last test completed was the oxidase test. The microbe was oxidase positive. (MMB,2015) The following were removed: Chromobacterium violenceum, Eschirichia coli, Micrococcus roseus, Proteus vulteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Rhodococcus rhodochrous, Sarcins aurantiaca, Serratia marcescens, Sporosarcina ureae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Thus, Microbe 3B was Micrococcus luteus
