In Meno’s servant, Socrates being the rationalist he is tries to prove to Meno that some knowledge is innate. To validate his rationalist view, Socrates uses Meno’s slave as an example to prove his point. Meno’s slave who has no prior knowledge on the subject of geometry was given a problem to solve. Socrates had believed that humans had past lives on which they were able to recollect knowledge from and believed the slave would be able to do the same in order to solve the problem. As the slave works on the problem he finds it difficult to comprehend, which usually ended with Socrates telling him he was wrong.
