Mcdonaldization is a term invented by George Ritzer to describe a sociological phenomenon. “Mcdonaldization of society, by George Ritzer” determines that McDonaldization occurs when a “culture possesses the characteristics of a fast food restaurant”. In our society, culture allows us to adapt quickly and flexibly to the challenges of our environment. Material culture makes Mcdonaldization even more accessible in our society because of all of the gadgets that we currently have. Mcdonaldization has four basic principles and these are: • Efficiency: The optimum method of completing a task. Best route to achieve a goal. • Calculability : focus more on quantity instead of quality • Predictability : The production process is organized to guarantee uniformity. • Non human technology: Taking away skills from people. I think back to a few years ago, when I just to live in El Salvador and how different life was. When I came to the U.S. it was very difficult to adapt to my new life, and to all the different cultures is this country. Especially when you are in an ESL class, you learn so much from other classmates and their cultures. As a human being I find myself all the time trying to do everything more efficiently , from how if I want to know the definition of a word, location of a place, recording my favorite shows, even to text my brother and he’s in the next room.
