The best critical lens to interpret the event of Martin Luther King’s speech is through cultural lens, this can be examined through multiple articles that justify the cause and effects of those involved. “I Have a Dream” speech was given by Martin Luther King on August 28, 1963. He was an American Civil Rights Activist, who called for an end to racism in the United States. He was a uplifting and heroic figure who not only started a revolution in a progressing country but someone who created a defining moment of the American Civil Rights Movement.
During King’s time period, many issues surface simply because of the color of their skin and their race. In the article “Biographical Highlights” it states “a time when things were always separate but never equal for blacks and whites.” this justifies the hardships many blacks faced because of their color, they practically had the end of the stick because of the supremacy of whites. The article also states “This was a time when blacks were not permitted to use the same stores as whites, to stay in the same hotels, or to attend the same schools as whites.” this explains the division between common people simply because of the color of their skin. In the article “America’s Story” it states that “ he never got tired of trying to end segregation laws” this explains a little more about his character. He was a man who did not focus on color and hate but instead he focused on diversity and love the nation had. Not only had he paved the way for integration of blacks as equals he “wrested freedom from the nation for the descendants of the nation's slaves.” (The Seattle Times) He was a person of determination, strength and bravery who protested through peaceful demonstrations and monumental
