The “Magic If” was an idea from Stanislavski. It helps people think first about their character by asking themselves “What would I do if I was in this situation”. This helps the actors to understand on how to react to the story. Later on, Stanislavski knew that these types of “what if” questions did not always lead to the best characterization. “What would I do?” was a better question.
