Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd The song, “Simple Man”, by Lynyrd Skynyrd was released in 1973 and really made a major impact on the population. ““Simple Man” is a ballad about a mother imparting some valuable wisdom to her young son, namely to be a simple man who lives honestly and with love and care” (Rossington). The tone of this song is mellow and somewhat motivational. It directly spoke the generation during the seventy’s and gave them advice on living life. This advice tells them to be content with who they are as people, to live a simple life, and to focus on the essentials of life itself. This song currently speaks numbers to my generation of materialistic people. My generation focuses on material good instead of the real meanings of life. This song pinpoints the main meanings of life and how important they are. “Simple Man” is therefore a valuable piece of music because it addresses people of all ages and explains the importance of life itself and the lack of need for unessential things. Go find a woman and you'll find love, and don't forget son, there is someone up above,” to expound on the idea of the importance of life. This verse is very impactful because it is a perfect example of the way of life the people of the seventies dreamed of. They strived for a simple slow life. They lived each day to the fullest and took advantage of each and every opportunity. My generation lives the exact opposite life as the one depicted in this verse.
