a. History Dennis “Chip” Wilson started off his career in the surfing, skating, and snowboarding business before exploring the first commercial yoga class offered in Vancouver and found it enlivening. The way he felt after the yoga class was so very similar to the feeling he gets after snowboarding that it seemed it was time for the yoga ideology to return. Chip was unimpressed and taken back by the cotton clothing that people were using for their sweaty and stretching yoga activities. He found that was completely inappropriate as his passion lay in technical athletic fabrics. The only way for this product to be successful was if the yoga instructors themselves had tried these products for themselves and provide insight. It was from here the Canadian based Lululemon company name was chosen in a survey and was given a stylized “A” logo. Although the company was founded in 1998, their first real store opening was on the beach area of Vancouver called Kitsilano, in November 2000. The company has been growing since 1998 and now is available in countries all over the world. Lululemon’s mission statement is “Creating components for people to live longer, healthier, fun lives.” (who is lululemon athletica?). By using high quality fabrics for their athletic apparel, Lululemon strives to make their target demographic look good and feel good.
