Lucky Luciano was an Italian-born American mobster who was best known for engineering the structure of modern organized crime in the U.S (Biography.com Editors, n.d). Luciano was the one to split New York City into five crime families and headed the Genovese crime family. Another thing that he did was initiate the Commission which served as governing body for organized crime nationwide (Biography.com Editors, n.d). Starting at a young age, Luciano was drawn to illegal activities. During the Prohibition, he got into bootlegging and this paved the way for him to build his empire.
