Copper Sun, by Sharon Draper, is fueled by emotion. It is the story of Amari, a young woman from Africa who is torn from her home and forced to be a slave, then escapes to find freedom again. Within Amari's journey through pain and sadness, there are two emotions that she exhibits that stand out. The two emotions that Amari exhibits the most are bravery and loneliness. Throughout the book, Amari thinks about her family and how she wants to be with them again. After she is auctioned off, Amari thinks about her brother; "I wish he could have flown that night" Amari thought sadly, "I wish he could have flown away as well."
