The 1915 Gallipoli campaign is one of the most iconic events in shaping our nation to what it is today. However, a lot of acknowledgement is channelled through the landing on April 15, 1915 and other major battles such as the Nek and their importance on the campaign as a whole. Unfortunately other important aspects of the battle are neglected. The image depicted above shows men who were involved in the battle of Lone Pine and how they to suffered great consequences and injures for their country. The people sent to Australia had no chance of being special, recognised or important. Except in August, 1915 when thousands of brave Australians fought for their nation. They earnt back a respect that was once deemed impossible. Unfortunately, these heroic and adventurous soldiers went unrecognized because of other battles. These soldiers deserve equal amount of respect in comparison to that of the soldiers involved in the Gallipoli landing. My next focus question is ‘what affect did the battle of Lone Pine have on the soldiers?’. This too will aid me in answering the question as to why the battle of Lone Pine deserves more attention in comparison to that of the Gallipoli landing. It is quotes such as these that give an insight into how brutal the battle was. Many comparisons are made from the Lone Pine to the landing in April. They are two events that are and should be highly regarded in Australia’s history. These quotes provide a perspective as to what the Australian’s suffered. Not only were they injured they had to observe the abhorrent scenes of which their friends and even family were killed. “It was like a grave, only some of us were alive in it.” This frightened soldier showed how scared he was and the thinking process of a soldier during the battle. After watching so many of his loved ones die he accepted that he was going to die and that he too had no chance. The consequences that the Australians suffered are the reason that many of us live such a lavish life today. The soldiers who ran out onto the battle field on August 6, 1915 suffered equal if not greater consequences than those who payed the ultimate sacrifice on April 15, 1915. The soldiers who galloped into the Lone Pine trenches suffered greater injuries than the human brain can possibly imagine. Over 900 soldiers paying the ultimate sacrifice for their country and just over 2000 suffering life threatening injuries. The final focus question l have selected to assist me in arguing why the battle of Lone Pine is important is, what makes this battle historically important? This will help me pin point the key to answering this
