In today’s society Barbie’s are used as a good gift idea and usually a child’s favorite play toy. In the poem, “The Barbie Doll” it represents the unrealistic conform of what women should be like to fit in society. The poem was written in the 1960s, and ironically the same issues in “Barbie Doll” is a major problem that still exist today. “The Barbie Doll” by Marge Piercy uses several literary elements to demonstrate a little girl expectations to live up to what society defines as feminine. “The Barbie Doll” is a narrative poem written in four stanzas with no specific rhyme pattern.
