In the poem “Icarus” written by Edward Fields, many literary devices were used to adapt to a contemporary setting. The poem Icarus is tremendously different from the original Icarus. Field’s modernized the Icarus myth so people could understand and are able to see a different view to the Icarus myth. The Icarus written by Edward Field showed allusion and more literary devices. Field’s wrote the contemporary version for the younger generation could be able to understand it more than the original version of “Icarus”. Not only allusion Field’s used in the contemporary version of The Icarus he used imagery, personification, repetition, euphemism, allegory, symbolism, and irony.
