Still Alice follows a story of a tragedy that tests family and relationships in general. The novel makes people uncomfortable due to the realness of what will truly happen if you get diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. This novel has some fantastic elements such as heart-wrenching plot lines, real and extraordinary characters and obviously, the element of surprise. Still Alice was written by Lisa Genova who’s never actually had to deal with a case of Alzheimer’s but, by the way she wrote it, it really made you sympathize for Alice’s family and the struggles that arose due to this life changing disease. This novel was published in 2009 and the movie was released just last year. The book definitely transitioned well onto the big screen. The movie didn’t hold anything back— meaning that all the main elements were there. It’s expected for a movie to change some details and some directors go as far as changing majority of the movie. The directors Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland did a stunning job bringing this movie to life. It was a unique experience and you felt like you knew so much more about Alice and the daily obstacles that she faced. When it came to the movie, the directors obviously can’t convey all her thoughts the way the book could. The movie came from a third person point of view, which gave the movie the justice it needed. It didn’t take away any important details and by Julianne Moore’s astounding acting, the viewer was able to feel and tell all the emotions Alice was going through, due to her facial expressions throughout. Coming from a novel where it was in a sick person’s point of view, the acting had to be amazing in order to give the viewer the same chills and sadness the novel did. To my surprise, it did exactly
