Laura lives with her maid Lupe and the Mexican revolutionary leader Braggioni. Braggioni is known for his cruelty and vanity, Laura does her best to slave to his wishes or tolerate him when he is around her. Laura is in a court ship with this guy and she is terrified that when they get married he will claim to own her and he would abuse her just like her first husband when she was 16. "Flowering Judas" symbolizes Porter's self-betrayal, she is unable to compromise between her concept of life as it should be, and as it is.
