Kateri Tekawitha was born in the town of Auriesville, New York, in 1656, she was the daughter of a Mohawk Warrior. When she was four years old her parents, and her little brother got Small pox. They all died leaving Kateri to have to be adopted by her two aunts and her uncle. The disease caught up with Kateri and she was badly scarred and was nearly blind, that is why she got the name Tekawitha, it means “She who bumps into things.” When she was eight she was paired up by her guardians with a boy. They expected them to marry but Kateri refused, she said she wanted to dedicate her life to God.
When Kateri was ten a war broke out of French Soldiers and hostile Natives from Canada, they destroyed the Mohawk strongholds on the South bank
