Marx was born into a wealthy family with his father, Heinrich being a lawyer and were he grew up practicing Judaism. Marx went to the University of Jena where he received a Degree in Philosophy, later marrying and having two children. Marx and his family moved to France but shortly after fled to Britain to escape the Civil War. Soon after, he was in extreme poverty, were he watched his family starve to death.…show more content…
During Marx life he had fascinating views on the Federal government and the role woman had on society, both in the hope of communism. Living in London during the Industrial Revolution was a new beginning for modern Capitalism; which, was the rise of social class or further known as the bourgeoisie (Appelrouth and Edles. 2008. pg 23). Factories became the lively hood a men, woman, and children, sadly the working conditions were extremity poor and dangerous. With the idea of social class Marx became stronger in the belief of Communism. According to Marx communism was a system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole (Appelrouth and Edles.2008. With the Industrial Revolution taking a full swing, Marx believed it was exploiting women and children, shortly later this was known as Marxism. Women were often thought of the second-class, tending to men’s needs. Marx wrote The German Ideology, were he revealed how he felt women were being treated in a Capitalist society. Women were drawn to his idea of Communism because that meant equality for all. Also, destroying the feminine role for women allowing them to choose the path of life they want to live. “Anyone who knows anything of history knows that great social changes are impossible without feminine upheaval. Social progress can be measured exactly by the social position of the fair sex, the ugly ones included”- Karl Marx (BrainyQuote). His quote about women shows without women in our everyday society then society wouldn’t be where it is today. In the 1960-70’s many feminist turned to Marxism because he doesn’t believe in the traditional role of women and the “Nuclear family” was a thing in the past.
