Journal # 1: Biography of Junot Diaz Dominican American Writer, known by the name of Junot Diaz was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on December 31,1968. At the age of six Junot emigrated with his family from the Dominican Republic to New Jersey. Junot worked several jobs growing up prior to becoming such a marvelous writer. Junot graduated from Cedar Ridge High School in Old Bridge, New Jersey in 1987. Aside from school Junot worked as a dishwasher, steelworker, and an editorial assistant. After Graduating High School, Junot had attended a few colleges such as, Kean College for one year, and then graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey, New Brunswick earning a degree in English. Adjusting to his new surroundings had a lot to do with reading. The isolation of being an immigrant and having to learn a new language in a culture from scratch was one of the reasons why Junot was lead to reading books. Always needing explanations and answers to his questions while adapting to his new surroundings, Junot became very curious overtime but later on realized that “anything is possible.” Having the mentality that anything is possible Junot Diaz had begun writing, beginning with his most famous and loved novel “The brief wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.” Junot Diaz expresses in his writing that “I do think that we all draw limits and I feel like part of the work of an artist is it shouldn’t be comfortable. I’m not looking to make people feel unsafe, but I am looking to make people feel comfortable.” This novel had been named the novel of the year in 2007. “The Brief wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” supports how Junot Diaz feels about satisfying his audience through his writing.
