Born on February 24, 1952, in Hormigueros, a small town in Puerto Rico, Judith Ortiz Cofer became an amazing writer who with her work, has conveyed her life experience. Cofer spent most of her adolescence moving from town to town due to her father’s navy status. From Puerto Rico to Paterson, New Jersey, to Augusta, Georgia, Cofer learned to adjust to new environments around her. With a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Augusta College, and a Master’s Degree in English from Florida Atlantic University, Cofer became an epic writer and highly accounted for her fiction works. Cofer exemplifies the expectations of culture in her poem, "The Changeling," where she depicts a clear monologue that returns us into the life of a young girl who is competing for her dad's fondness and consideration. It represents lack of affection and attention on behalf of her father. To make up for this emptiness, the girl invents a game to catch her father’s eye for at least a slight moment. Cofer states, “It was at that early stage that I realized I could gain power and attention in this way, and I became hooked on it” (Gordon, “An Interview with Judith Ortiz Cofer.”) The small girl finds her way into her brother’s closet sneakily, and transforms into a boy. She wore a rough like piece of clothing and an army helmet to cover up her hair, and converted into a powerful leader who was referred to as “Che Guevara,” which is where the title comes into place. She walks out to find her father amused and bewildered by her appearance; meanwhile, she feels a sense of relation to her father while role playing and storytelling a male figure. Her act comes to an end when her mother is not amused by her play role. Mother forbids the little girl to continue to dress as a boy; she braids her hair and asks her to go change back into her clothing and return to the table as a “girl.”…show more content…

The way the motion picture is quiet is noteworthy for some reasons.
