After watching the John Punch case presented in the video I wasn't surprised, but I was shocked on certain aspects of the case. Due to my previous knowledge of history I knew that slavery was going to eventually happen in America. I knew that whites had racist views against African Americans and that there will be a biased decision made by the Virginia Governors Council to give him a harsher punishment. However I was shocked on the sudden change of views towards African Americans. Before this case African Americans such as Anthony Johnson Lived as a free citizen and was looked as a equal to others including whites. He owned property, servants, and was respected.
