Amidst crowds of students busily roaming the hallways of GSHS, Junior, Jesse DuPlesys mohawk and bright smile project and send a powerful message: Never judge a book by it’s cover. Although there is plenty to be assumed about this young artist, his hardened exterior yields a young man with a gentle and creative interior. DuPlesys’ art career began relatively recently. As a mid-year transfer student last year from Coal Ridge High School, he took Jewelry and Stained Glass taught by GSHS teacher, Brenda Maher. “You could tell right away, he was really into art. He was really enthusiastic. You could tell it was something he was really passionate about.” Maher said. In his first semester, he completed his very first glass piece, a shell bracelet and a silver ring. The beautiful pieces proved that DuPlesys had found his creative niche; however, his creativity is no surprise. His father is a creative man as well. Jesse recalls him drawing, painting and working with leather. DuPlesys has found he has a knack for things of this nature as well.…show more content… Working with my hands has always been something I have enjoyed.” DuPlesys said, smiling down at the ring in his hand. He procured his inspiration for his pieces in the people around him. His glass piece is a tribute to his mother and grandmother; the ring a gift to a friend. DuPlesys sees more beauty and more color in the world than most. Perhaps most intriguing about Jesse is not only his creative and artistic ability, but how multifaceted he is. DuPlesys is not only an art student here at GSHS, but also a varsity football athlete, and a friend to most. It is a consensus that this uber-positive student is someone people want to be around. His positivity is infectious.
“People need to know that Jesse is just a loving guy and he's probably the best person ever. I consider him my best friend,” friend of Jesse’s, Larry Flores
