Yoji Yamada's hit film, Tora-san, is a classic Japanese film that resonated with the people in Japan, but also with the Issei and Nisei in Hawaii too. The movie touches on a fundamental aspect of Japanese American identity. According to this movie, to be Japanese is to value family. Torajiro, the main character, has shown that he values family through his actions towards them. He brought home gifts to his aunt and uncle and treats them along with his sister, Sakura, with respect. In the film's climax, his uncle and aunty yell at Tora for messing up his sister's matchmaking meeting, he leaves of his own accord so that Sakura has a better chance of getting a husband.
