Is mankind naturally evil as Hobbes suggests? Would the adults behave the same way if they were stranded on an island? Instead of the adults, Golding uses a group of boys stranded on an island to examine human nature. If adults were stranded on the island instead of children, they too would give in their human nature and become savages. There would probably be a hierarchy with adults. People usually choose the smartest person to be the leader. They are the person on the top. I think that having a hierarchy is a pretty good idea, because it can help others stay civilized. Adults will have a hierarchy and maybe even have leaders just like Ralph and Piggy. Ralph is at the top but is not the smartest on the island. The adult leaders might not
