Indore, the most prominent city of Malwa region of western Madhya Pradesh state, central India with Large, Medium and Small scale industries. It is the chief collecting and distributing centre for western Madhya Pradesh as well as a commercial and industrial centre. City is well connected by expressway, several national and state highways, whereas rail network bifurcates the city exactly from the centre. Indore has the highest development rate in compare to the other cities with respect to infrastructures and is the busiest & most advanced business hubs in IndiaThe city was only feasible on this location because it was a resting place for an oldest pilgrimage route for Ujjain then Maratha’s used it as route towards northern India. According to 2011 statistics, the city has a literacy rate of 87.38%, higher than the country’s national average of 74%. In Indore, 12.72% of its populace is 6 years old or below. The average yearly growth rate of population is about 2.85% according to the measurements of statistics 2001.Indore is a young city. Nearly 45% of its population is below 24 years of age with abundance of academic institutions in the city the teenager group is the prime consuming segment of population in the city. The population of Indore city increased from 57,235 in the year 1911 to 16.39 lacs in 2001. On an average the growth rate in the city has been of order of 40 %. Thus the average growth increase for Indore has been higher as compared to national growth rate (@ 22%). However the decadal growth rate compare very well with the state growth rate for urban areas, which stands at 44.9%. 4.4 Culture: Hindus constitute a noteworthy 0.02% of Indore’s aggregate population, while Muslims 7.41%, others 2% and Jains 7.02%. Indore has different cultural backgrounds and speaking various languages. The major languages spoken in Indore are Hindi, Marathi, English, Rajasthani, Malwi, Punjabi and sindhi. Religious setup: Indore has various types of setups. We can see many traces of Hindu temples and mosques at same time. Indore has many monuments which depict the previous Maratha setups. Currently, In Indore, the buildings which stand in good condition depict Maratha architecture. As, Water was a key element in Mughal architecture. 5.2.3 Economy: The city settlement initiated due to trade and commerce and thus it remains the dominant features of thee city. Indore is a commercial city which was established for the trade purpose. Indore lies on major trade route go towards the northern India. They were run their economy on the basis of silk route which goes through Ujjain. Saraswati River was used as major transportation network. 5.2.4 Available resource: River and fertile land and trade route were the major available resources for Indore.
