The Godfather Inciting incident A man by the name of Virgil Sollozo, a member of the Tattaglia “family”, comes to speak with the head of the Corleone “family”, “Don” Vito Corleone, to make a tempting deal with him. Sollozo asked for a million dollars, legal protection and political influence in exchange for a spot in the Tattaglia’s heroine dealing business. Vito turns down his offer; he believes that the drug business is “dirty”.Sollozo claims that his million-dollar investment is a guaranteed deal, but one of Vito’s sons, Sonny, steps in and questions him, “You mean to tell me the Tattaglias will guarantee our investment?” Sonny has made and big mistake and Don Vito knows it. In Italy, he meets a woman and falls in love. They marry, but his newly wedded wife is killed in an explosion. After this event, he returns to New York to reunite with his old girlfriend, Kay Adams. He tells her that he now works for his father, he proposes, and they get married. Meanwhile in New York, Sonny notices a black eye on Connie, his sister, and finds out that her husband gave it to her. He looks for Connie’s husband and threatens him with death if he ever touches his sister again. He finds out that Connie’s sister has been getting hit by her husband again and, angrily, leaves his home without body guards to kill him. As he was driving to Connie’s husband he gets shot to death after stopping at a tollbooth. When Vito gets notified of his son’s death, he arranges a meeting with the heads of all five Mafia families. Vito wants to avoid war so he tells them that if they let Michael return safely, he won’t seek revenge for Sonny. They agree and let him come home safely.
