Immune-oncology (I-O) treatment propose promising results for chemo-resistant diseases such as lung cancer and melanoma. These I-O drugs aim to inhibit the defense capabilities of cancer cells, allowing the body’s immune system to identify, adapt, and fight the cancer cells.
Top pharmaceutical companies, such as; Bristol-Myers Squibb, Merck, and Roche Group are excelling at producing promising immune-oncology drugs and stand to make tens of billions of dollars through product sales as a result. This was evident when Bristol-Myers Squibb released Yervoy, the first I-O drug to treat melanoma in 2011, and experienced drastic increase in their stock prices.
Though the immune-oncology drugs provide large financial benefits to pharmaceutical companies,
