. On July 9, 2011 Chilli Vasquez, along wither her Mother, Sister and Aunt went to the mall to celebrate her upcoming 8th birthday. On the way a drunk driver hit them head on and turned this once very normal 7 year old into someone being paralyzed for the rest of her life.
II. Today I will be telling you about some of the strategies that could help reduce these statistics.
III. One of the reasons why I chose this topic is because I’ve always been bothered by the threat of a drunk driver on the road killing one of my loved ones but cannot understand why not more is being done.

That is more than the population of Texas.
II. Drunk driving Statistics is overwhelming evidence that still not enough is being done to prevent and reduce deaths and injuries caused by drunk driving.
A. There are several solutions I think might be helpful to our society to prevent these horrible statistics.
Ignition interlocks, very similar to breathalyzers except they are attached to the dashboard of your vehicle. Before the vehicle can be started they must exhale into the device, they must meet the minimal guidelines in there state. CDC.gov states “Unfortunately, only a small proportion of DWI offenders currently participate in interlock programs. As of December 2010, only 13 states require interlocks for all convicted offenders, including a first conviction”
1. Policeman provides checkpoints randomly at any given day or night in order for the driver to question if they should be driving or not.
2. More organizations against drunk driving, Like Mother Against Drunk Driving (MAAD) According to there website, they have helped reduce the numbers by one half of drunk
