The religion of Christianity in my opinion, is a perfect example of how the theory of unilineal evolution “reflected” the ideology of colonialism. Edward Tylor explains that all religions started out with beliefs in spiritual beings. (Stein 17) However, Tylor claims that the religions of “civilized” societies include the beliefs of gods and souls, while the “primitive” societies focused their beliefs in spirits and ghosts.
