The city shows not too much damage, but it suffered greatly. The city was nearly done being rebuilt within a few months, the economy repaired its self in the 1870s. On July 22, 1864 towards the end of the Civil War, The Battle of Atlanta was fought. Approximately 9,000 troops were lost in this bloody outrage. The Union army left a “trail of devastation” (Charles A. Wills) across central Georgia, from Atlanta all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. The Battle of Atlanta impacted Georgia on many levels, the economy worsened after the war, people were lost during battle, and cities burned down.
