Much has changed since Ancient Greek times but many things have remained similar throughout western civilization. Hellenic Greece has a huge impact on western culture because Greece is where it western culture originated. Many forms of art, variations of philosophy, and types of theatre began in ancient Greece and are still prominent in the world today. Ancient Greece birthed western Philosophy creating ideas used even still today. Aristotle in particular created the scientific method. Greek culture originated comedy, tragedy and changed the direction of arts forever. Initially, Greek culture can be credited for many important advancements towards the world humans live in today. In time we have come to find that everything is made up of atoms but they are divisible into smaller particles. Another Philosopher beyond his time was Pythagoras. “Pythagoras conceived the notion that the heavenly bodies appear to move in accordance with mathematical ratios” (pg.148) the Pythagorean Theorem is extremely important in today’s culture because it can measure any length such as the astronomical lengths it was originally used for. The Sophists were the second wave of Philosophers to be born in Greece. “Sophist or wise men, concentrated more on the human mind than the natural world like the Pre-Socratic philosophers.” (148) Sophist formed what they called humanism which is focused all on human actions, most importantly political actions. Sophist also brought about the inception of the theory of relativism with a leading Protagoras saying of “Man is the measure of all things” (148). Meaning to each person they define their own reality. Socrates rejected all of Sophist ideas except for their inclination of debate which he was a champion of.
