Have you ever heard of The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros? In the story, the author uses imagery and similes to create a theme. Authors use literary devices to make their piece of writing better and more interesting for the reader. Most importantly, the author used literary devices to show that people’s backgrounds should not hold them back from being who they truly are and knowing their true selves. Identity is something that defines you and the way of showing a human is who they are. People’s backgrounds should not hold them back from being independent and who they truly are because it defines themselves into a much greater person. In The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros the author uses imagery to show that people’s backgrounds define who they are. To add to that, Cisneros proved that authors use literary devices to show a deeper meaning in pieces of writing. In the text it says, “It was my great-grandmother’s name and now it is mine” (Cisneros).
