Hope: The Transformation Of Hazel Grace Lancaster
329 Words2 Pages
Hazel Grace Lancaster profoundly changed from beginning to the end of the book. Physically, Hazel grows significantly weaker due to her cancer. At the beginning of the book before her church support group meeting, Hazel climbs the stairs even though she drags a cart with a heavy metal bottle of oxygen, and states that elevators are for the weak. Near the end of the novel, Hazel realizes that she is weak and frail to walk up the stairs, and reluctantly rides the elevator to her meeting. Not only does Hazel change with the deterioration of her physical condition, but her social and emotional condition as well. Due to Hazel’s cancer, she made excuses to isolate herself from the outside world, and she often read books in her room to pass time.
