Heinrich Schliemann was a notoriously competitive and relentless man. He was seriously flawed in lacking honor and honesty. He had dreams of a major archaeology discovery and would stop at nothing to make his name known. Susan Heuck Allen’s article on the association of Frank Calvert and Heinrich Schliemann was rich in animosity geared toward the latter. Allen’s educated descriptions of the man inform the audience of the character Schliemann really was; ambitious but wrongfully prosperous. Allen’s writing restored dignity of Calvert, rightfully justifying his name in the archaeological discipline history records.
