A. The headright system was when colonist where granted 50 acres of land. The headright system was a way to attract new settlers to the colonies, colonies like Virgina, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Maryland. It was also a way to get more workers to come to the region because of the beginning stages of tobacco farming in the colonies. The wealthiest plantation owners benefitted from this system. They benefitted from it because they would buy large amounts of slaves and intern would accumulate larger amounts of land from those slaves.
