GMOs are Not Future Recently, conversation has started about if genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) actually do well for humans. GMOs help feed the poor and starving, but GMOs affect the body in a negative way. They trigger an allergy in humans, other organisms in the ecosystem could be harmed, GM crops could prove toxic to an organism in the environment, and they can cause emergence in new disease.
GMOs or genetically modified organisms, whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. There has been results that show GMOs can trigger an allergy in humans. Of course, all foods can cause allergies but, some genes used in GM technology might be taken from food that causes allergies. Inserting that gene into another organism could cause the host organism to express that allergen as a trait. Also, a new allergen could be produced when the genes are mixed across different species. Experiments in the UK were tested to see how GMOs were affecting humans, they used soy which has skyrocketed with 50% more reactions (GM soy). In 2004, farmers used 86% herbicide on GM crops, which could cause serious health problems.…show more content… There are lower levels of biodiversity, which is, “the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.” (Google Definition). Also, by removing one pest that harms the crop, you could be removing a food source for an animal. There were experiments on female pigs, where the female pigs were fed GMOs, and the ending results were, the pigs had a 25% heavier uterus than the non-GMO-fed female pigs. To add, all living organisms are able to adapt, so our GMO crops will sooner or later become invasive to the pesticides sprayed, and become weedy. When we plant our GM crops they diminish the bacteria living in the ground that help organic plants grow, this then affects the whole
