“Because of Winn-Dixie” In “Because of Winn-Dixie” the setting of the book was Gloria Dump’s house, Herman W. Block Memorial Library, Gertrude's Pets, and home. That’s more than one setting, but India Opal goes to all of those places in the day. Most of the action in the book happens in all of those places because Opal goes to those places every day and talks to the people there. Then, goes to the next place, and moves on with her day. Gloria Dump’s house is very mysterious. Gloria and Opal spend most of their time in the backyard, though. Gloria’s backyard has a lot of plants and trees until you get to the better part. At the back is a tree with bottles on it that Gloria hung there to count all of her mistakes. There is a table and a couple lawn chairs. Gertrude’s Pets is very grand because, in my point of view, there are animals. There is a cash register when you walk in, and pets in the back. Herman W. Block Memorial Library looks ancient. This library is the library the owner got when she was a child, and she still works there. There are books everywhere, and Miss.Freeman, the woman who owns it, sits behind a desk. India Opal’s house is in a trailer park. Opal’s room is in the back, and on the other side of the trailer is her dad’s room. Opal’s goal in this book is to make friends, and for her mom to come back. Opal is trying to make new friends because her dad is a preacher. He found a new preaching position in a new church, and they moved there. Opal had no friends. Also, Opal wants her mom to come back because her mom left her dad and her when she was an infant. She wants her to come back because she is missing her more than ever before. What is working against her to accomplish these goals are herself and her mom. The climax in the book is when Winn-Dixie runs
